Harrow aims to fill empty storage unit with Easter eggs for charity

Harrow residents and local businesses have been urged to donate chocolate eggs and fill unit the size of a red phone box for Harrow Foodbank.

Access Self Storage starts its yearly Easter Egg campaign, featuring an empty storage unit. The goal is to gather donations from locals to fill the 2.5m² unit, roughly the size of an old-style red phone box.

To fill the unit, which is about 9ft tall and 3ft wide, the team aims to collect approximately 200 boxed Easter Eggs from supermarkets. Any extras will be stored in a larger unit.

Since 2011, stores, local communities, and customers have donated thousands of Easter Eggs. In 2024, all 54 Access Self Storage locations will participate. If each store fills its container, that’s 11,800 Easter Eggs collected, to be distributed to good causes locally and across the UK.

Somaya Brown, Store Manager, Access Self Storage Harrow said: “Everyone deserves a treat this Easter and we’d love to fill our storage unit with Easter Eggs. It couldn’t be easier to donate, eggs can be dropped off at any Access Self Storage store, at any time. We want to be able to collect as many eggs as possible, and to distribute them to those in need, and helped by our chosen charity this year.”

Jan Albert Fourie, General Manager of Operations at Access Self Storage commented, “It’s so important for our store teams to work closely with their local communities and to be able to help those that will really benefit from this collection.

“Our aim is to fill our storage units over and over whilst this campaign remains open and if we can collect 12,000 Easter Eggs this year, we know the teams and our charity partners will be so grateful. If every customer donates just one Easter Egg throughout this campaign we can smash our target and make a huge difference.”

Staff have already begun collecting eggs and donations can be made at the store between 1st March – 25th March, ahead of the charity collection and distribution in time for Easter.

A Harrow Foodbank spokesperson said; “Harrow Foodbank is Eggstremely excited to be part of Access Self Storage Ltd’s Easter Egg Appeal. The Harrow Foodbank is extremely grateful for all your support. It is very much appreciated as it helps us to continue to provide this much needed service to local people in a food crisis.”

For those interested, Access Self Storage Harrow is on Neptune Road, just off Pinner Road.

Since the Access Self Storage Easter Egg Appeal launched in 2011, more than 8000 chocolate eggs have been donated to dozens of charities across the UK. The aim for 2024 is to double this!
