Harrow Shopping – Celebrating our borough’s fantastic independent shops

With so many of us shopping online or at major department stores, independent shops can often be forgotten and, so, in this article, we’re celebrating some of our borough’s best standalone stores.

Silver Rivet

Having survived recessions and a global pandemic, few shops in the country, let alone Harrow, have the staying power of Silver Rivet on St Ann’s Road. Specialising in designer clothing for men and women, Silver Rivet has been a Harrow Town Centre fixture since 1990 and has remained popular despite competition over the years from retail giants such as Debenhams.

De’Paul Jewellery

Nestled on Pinner High Street, De’Paul Jewellery was first opened in 1983 by Debbie and paul (see what they did there) and features a wide range of items, including wedding jewellery and the unique De’Paul collection. The store is open Monday to Saturday between 9.30am and 5.30pm.

On The Hill Flowers

Despite intense online competition, On The Hill Flowers nestled inside Harrow on the Hill tube station continues to bloom. As well as supplying fresh flowers to shoppers who are out and about in the area, On The Hill Flowers also has a website and delivery service, including same-day delivery.

Hodges Fishmongers

Established in 1957, the family run Hodges Fishmongers on Alexandra Avenue is all about supplying fresh, high quality fish and seafood to the people of Harrow. Customers can browse and buy in-store or, alternatively, contact Hodges to arrange delivery.

Retouch Lighting

Taking pride of place on Harrow on the Hill (opposite Coffee 2 Cocktails), Retouch Lighting specialises in – you guessed it – home lighting solutions. As well as offering modern and antique lamps and light shades, Retouch also offers bespoke designs to its customers.

The Furniture Shop

Established in 1996, The Furniture Shop at 340 Pinner Road is very much part of Harrow’s fixtures and fittings. In addition to in-store shopping and delivery, The Furniture Shop also offers a removals and moving service to its customers.

Growing community by shopping local

While shopping online is convenient and sometimes cheaper, supporting local businesses is vital in retaining a sense of community in our borough and, as we’ve shown in this article, Harrow has a lot to offer its shoppers.
