Park High School, based in Stanmore, has been honoured with an award for the quality of its Careers Education.
The recognition comes from Challenge Partners, a national charity dedicated to supporting school improvement and sharing best practices.
Following a two-day visit earlier this month in which assessors commended a variety of areas of school life, Careers Education was assessed as an area of excellence. This is in addition to a similar award for Special Education Needs which was recognised last year, also as an area of excellence.
The Challenge Partner assessors, led by an experienced team of senior leaders from other schools, recognised the high quality of Careers provision at Park High which supports students throughout their school career. They visited lessons and tutor time, had a variety of meetings with staff and students and joined assemblies.
In terms of Careers, they noted that from an early age, students are encouraged to think about different careers and their personal interests. They are provided with a range of activities including an annual Careers’ Fair, interview practice, work experience, preparation for College and University and advice on apprenticeships.
Only this week, students had an online seminar – one of six this term – from an Electrical Engineer who spoke about their training, job requirements and day-to-day experience.
Challenge Partners commented: “There is a comprehensive careers programme. The school has achieved the Quality in Careers Standard Award, the national quality award for careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) in secondary schools, colleges and work-based learning and is a beacon of excellence which it positively shares with others”.
The award of an area of excellence is the main way Challenge Partners identifies and shares leading practice with the rest of the Network of Excellence so that many more children and young people can benefit.
Mrs O’Dwyer, Headteacher at Park High School, commented: “I am beyond proud to have this area of school life recognised by Challenge Partners. Ensuring that our students are ready for the next stage of their career, whatever they may do, is central to our ethos.
