Special Lego event to be held in Harrow this July

For 75 years, kids (both big and small) have spent many a happy hour building creations with Lego bricks and, if this is you, you may want to cancel any plans for July 27th in honour of the National Brick Event at Byron Hall.

The building blocks of a global favourite

Ole Kirk Christiansen was a humble toy maker in Billund Denmark, specialising in hand-crafted wooden playthings. He became so successful that, in 1934, he decided to go all official and give his business a name – LEGO, from the Danish leg godt, translated as Play Well.

During this time, Ole’s repertoire included a set of wooden bricks with interlocking tubes and studs and, in 1949, he began recreating these bricks in more durable plastic. On his retirement in 1958, Ole’s son, Godtfred Kirk, took over the business and, in an extremely savvy move, patented the popular brick toy. The LEGO brick quickly began to make its way to playrooms across Europe and, in 1968, the doors to the first LEGOLAND theme park were opened in Billund.

Don’t LEGO of this rare opportunity

On Saturday July 27th, starting from 10am, Byron Hall on Christchurch Avenue, Harrow, will be taken over by 20 traders – all there to share their LEGO creations. During the event, which finishes at 5pm, visitors will be able to marvel at some of the magical creations on display – but that’s not all. If you’re a super fan or collector, you won’t want to miss this event which will also feature stalls selling rare, retired and limited edition LEGO sets.
