Lidl could open four new stores in Harrow as location wish list revealed

Lidl GB is set to expand its presence across the UK, including several new locations in Harrow and its surrounding areas. As part of its 30th-year celebration, the supermarket chain has revealed plans to open numerous stores nationwide, promising thousands of job opportunities.

This announcement comes after a year of substantial investment in infrastructure, notably marked by the inauguration of its largest global warehouse situated in Luton. The company has also been actively enhancing its existing facilities, including expansions in Bridgend and Belvedere. Technological improvements such as electronic shelf labels have contributed to Lidl’s impressive market growth, now standing at 8%.

In Harrow, at least four new stores are on the agenda wish list, including North Harrow, South Harrow, Kenton, and Wealdstone. Other local areas earmarked for Lidl’s expansion include Ruislip, Wembley (two locations), and Watford (two locations).

With a steadfast commitment to providing affordable quality food, Lidl aims to extend its reach to more households across the country. The upcoming store openings will span various regions, from Bristol to Birmingham and even to Berwick in Scotland. In London, where Lidl holds a significant market share, new stores are slated for Wandsworth, Fulham, Hoxton, and Canning Town.

Richard Taylor, Lidl GB Chief Development Officer, commented: “Having fortified our infrastructure with significant investments like Luton, which is the largest warehouse in the Lidl world, we’re proud to have achieved record market share this month. We have also been the fastest growing bricks and mortar supermarket for the past seven months in a row. With an exceptional store network and our laser focus on operational excellence, we’re welcoming more customers through our doors than ever before, which positions us perfectly for continued expansion.

“As we celebrate our 30th year, our commitment to ensuring that all households across the country have access to high quality produce at affordable prices is stronger than ever. We’re planning to open hundreds of new Lidl stores but ultimately see no ceiling on our ambition or growth potential.

“This is why we’re continuing to invest in new locations whilst exploring innovative routes to expansion. As we look ahead, we’re excited to welcome even more new shoppers to our existing stores, as well as those we’re planning to open across the country in the coming months and years.”

Lidl is seeking prime locations in Harrow and nearby areas. They need sites with good accessibility, ample space, and over 100 parking spaces. Lidl is flexible on property arrangements and offers finders’ fees of up to £22,500 for successful site identification.
