New immersive family show set to open at Wembley Park this summer

Punchdrunk Enrichment have announced the debut of their inaugural show, Enitan’s Game, at their new venue in Wembley Park.

Co-written by Mia Jerome, Casey Jay Andrews, Omar F. Okai, and Simon Maeder, and directed by Omar F. Okai, the immersive experience targets families and opens on June 14 for a limited run.

Sadie-Jean Shirley joins the production as part of Punchdrunk Enrichment and Black British Theatre Awards Directorship Initiative.

Since May 2023, Punchdrunk Enrichment has been in a three-year residency in Wembley Park, aiming to develop a versatile immersive arts space. This location was chosen due to Wembley Park’s dedication to arts and its ambition to become a prominent cultural hub within Brent.

Today marks the official unveiling of the new space, Punchdrunk Enrichment Stores, offering immersive theatre shows, masterclasses, community residencies, and events. The goal of Punchdrunk Enrichment Stores is to inspire storytelling.

The initial phase of Punchdrunk Enrichment Stores involved ten young locals aged 18-25, providing them with paid opportunities to work alongside carpenters and designers, gaining hands-on experience.

Enitan’s Game, set in the stores, follows the journey of Enitan and Ged, who collect objects and stories. One such item is a game made by Enitan’s grandfather, which holds sentimental value for her. Now, she seeks an audience to relive those memories and heal.

Targeted at 6-11 year olds, Enitan’s Game celebrates the strength of shared stories, coping with loss, and the importance of community.

Omar F. Okai, co-director and founder of the Black British Theatre Awards (BBTAs), has a rich background in directing and choreography, with over 90 productions to his name internationally and in Britain. His recent credits include associate director roles in notable productions such as “Get Up Stand Up” at the Lyric Theatre Shaftesbury Avenue, “Bedknobs and Broomsticks” on the UK tour, and “Kinky Boots in Concert” at Drury Lane. Additionally, he directed Theatre Royal Stratford East’s 140th year panto, “Pinocchio 2024”. Omar’s expertise extends to performing arts education, having taught in numerous performing arts schools. Currently, he is collaborating with composer Liam Godwin on his musical “Celia”.

Punchdrunk Enrichment Artistic Director, Peter Higgin has a strong belief in the transformative power of engaging with the arts and creativity. He considers the power of imagination to be one of our greatest tools and has witnessed how access to immersive experiences can unlock creativity. .

He said, “We’re really excited to be throwing open the doors of our new space in Brent and welcoming families to our brand-new show ‘Entian’s Game’. This is the first of many exciting projects Punchdrunk Enrichment have lined up over the coming months and we look forward to working with people both local and from further afield and introducing them to our immersive worlds”
