Armed police were spotted outside Kingsbury Station shortly after 1:30pm this afternoon, Friday June 7, after reports of a man seen with a firearm.
Witnesses reported seeing a man being arrested and detained by police. At least one police van was present at the scene, and a number of members of the public were seen watching the incident unfold.
TfL posted: “Kingsbury station. This station is closed due to an incident outside the station.”
A spokesperson for Met Police said, “Police were called at around 12.50hrs on Friday 7 June to reports of a man in possession of a firearm in the vicinity of Kingsbury underground station.
“Officers, including armed colleagues, attended the scene. Distraction devices and Taser were used and the man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm. He was taken into custody and following a medical examination was conveyed to hospital where he has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
“Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting reference CAD3491/7JUN.”
Chief Inspector Guy Ellwood, who covers policing in Brent, said: “Officers responded swiftly to reports of a man with a firearm outside Kingsbury underground station. Armed colleagues attended and after attempting to engage with the man, distraction devices and Taser were used.
“The man was arrested and has subsequently been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
“We know this incident will have been concerning to those who witnessed it and thank the public for their assistance in enabling us to bring the matter to a safe conclusion.”
