Harrow opticians celebrate 30 years of service

Harrow’s long-standing opticians, Specsavers, celebrated their 30th anniversary in style this week. The Deputy Mayor of Harrow, Councillor Anjana Patel, was invited to join the festivities, marking the milestone alongside the store’s dedicated team.

Deputy Mayor Patel was welcomed by Tejal Sheth, optometrist director, and Adam Shackle, retail director. The event was also attended by Louise Baxter, Manager of Harrow BID, and Louise Halvey, an ambassador from Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, accompanied by her adorable cocker spaniel, Flora. This charity trains dogs to assist deaf individuals, alerting them to important sounds like doorbells and fire alarms.

Since opening in the town centre in June 1994, Specsavers Harrow has dispensed nearly one million pairs of glasses and conducted sight tests for almost a quarter of a million customers. The audiology center, launched in 2006, has provided over 10,000 hearing tests. This milestone highlights the store’s commitment to exceptional customer care within the Harrow community.

The store’s directors, including Shakeel Hirani, ophthalmic director, and Sakina Khaki, audiology director, proudly showcased their state-of-the-art facilities to Councillor Patel. The Deputy Mayor toured the diagnostic testing rooms and then gave a speech before cutting the anniversary cake and toasting to the store’s continued success. She also underwent a sight test conducted by Tejal Sheth.

Customers joined in the celebrations, enjoying goody bags, special offers, and treats. Reflecting on the event, Ms. Sheth, who has been with Specsavers Harrow for over 17 years, said, “We are delighted that the Deputy Mayor can support our 30th birthday store anniversary and join in the celebrations. Over the years a lot has changed in the field of optics, but our core vision of delivering the very best customer service to our customers remains at the heart of what we do each day.”

Ms. Sheth added, “During this time, Specsavers Harrow has supported the community’s eye health, providing areas of expertise in spectacles, contact lenses, minor eye conditions, post-cataract care, and hearing aids. This has helped to ease pressure on the NHS, as local GPs refer their patients to us for sight or hearing issues such as red eye, flashes and floaters, and ear wax removal. We are very much looking forward to the next 30 years.”
