Man charged after woman ‘robbed’ in Watford

A man has been charged in connection with a robbery in Watford.

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Police said, “Police were contacted to reports of a robbery which occurred just before 4am on Sunday 16 June.

“It is reported that the victim, a woman aged in her 20s, was riding her e-scooter along Station Road when two men allegedly ran after her and brought the e-scooter to a stop.

“They demanded that she hand over the e-scooter and threatened her with what was believed to be a screwdriver.

“The suspects then made off with the e-scooter. Following extensive CCTV enquiries, two suspects were identified.”

James Culpeck, aged 18, of no fixed abode, was arrested, charged and remanded on Thursday (27 June) and appeared before Hatfield Magistrates’ Court on Friday (28 June).

He was remanded into custody where he will next appear at St Albans Crown Court on Tuesday 30 July.

The second suspect, a man aged in his 20s, was arrested on Friday (28 June) on suspicion of robbery. He was subsequently released on conditional bail whilst enquiries continue.

Detective Constable Ben Chandler, from the Watford Local Crime Unit, said: “We’ve been working hard to try and identify the individuals involved in this incident. There is no place for this type of behaviour in Watford and I hope these arrests provide reassurance to the local community.

“If anyone has any information that could help with our investigation, please don’t hesitate to contact me via email quoting crime reference number 41/48367/24.”
