Today, over a thousand Muslims marched through Wealdstone to observe Ashura, an annual commemoration mourning the seventh-century death of Imam Hussein, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad.
Participants, dressed in black outfits as a symbol of mourning, marched from Harrow Leisure Centre to Wealdstone High Street and back again from around 4:15pm to 6pm.

This event holds particular significance for Shia Muslims, as it marks the anniversary of the Battle of Karbala in present-day Iraq, where Hussein was killed.
Ashura is a period of mourning and reflection for the Shia community, commemorating the sacrifice and martyrdom of Imam Hussein in the seventh century.
The black attire worn by participants represents their grief and solidarity with Hussein’s suffering.
