St John’s Church of England School in Harrow participated in the National Festival of Music for Youth finals at the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra Centre on 5th July.
The school’s orchestra, consisting of children from Years 3-6, auditioned at the regional festival in Harrow in March and earned a place in the national finals.
The orchestra, which rehearses weekly and leads worship in the clergy assembly every Wednesday, includes a wide range of musical abilities.
As a lead school for music in Harrow, St John’s champions music education, with over 100 children learning instruments. The orchestra remains popular, with 46 children attending regularly.
Mrs Ogunniyi, the music teacher, shared her pride: “It is such an honour to be chosen to go to the Nationals in Birmingham. The orchestra work really hard and sound amazing and this opportunity is recognition of their hard work and commitment.”
Head teacher Mrs Hester also praised the achievement: “This is an amazing achievement for our children and reflects the love of music across the school, the ability to work together to create such a professional sound and a recognition of the high quality of instrumental playing.”
