South Harrow resident Brahma Mohanty is set to volunteer at the Paris 2024 Olympics, contributing his time and effort to one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events.
Mohanty, who has been living in South Harrow since 2018, will be based at the Stade de France where he will assist with events including Rugby 7s, Athletics, and the Closing Ceremony.
Brahma Mohanty told Harrow Online, “I will be volunteering at the Paris 2024 Olympics, being based at the Stade de France where the Rugby 7s, Athletics, and Closing Ceremony events are taking place. I previously volunteered at the London 2012 Olympics which was a fantastic experience. I felt that was a once in a lifetime experience, so to get the opportunity to do it all over again in another city is a real honour.”
Mohanty’s passion for helping out at large-scale events is well-documented. His previous volunteer roles include the London 2012 Olympics, multiple Commonwealth Games (2002 in Manchester, 2014 in Glasgow, and 2022 in Birmingham), UEFA Euro 2020 in London, and the UEFA Champions League Final at Wembley.
“The London Olympics left a lasting legacy for both the city and the country, and I am sure Paris 2024 will have a similar impact for the citizens of Paris and France,” he said. “Volunteering is a way of giving back to my community and to society and was something my late parents taught me. My father was a long-serving GP in Oldham and he always taught me the importance of helping others in whatever way we can.”
In addition to his Olympics experience, Mohanty has been actively involved in community work and fundraising, from his early days in Greater Manchester to his current residence in South Harrow. Outside of his regular job in finance and consulting, he has made significant contributions to various sporting events and community initiatives.
“Whilst I was never an Olympic-level athlete, volunteering at the Olympics was for me the next best thing,” Mohanty said.
“Just as the Games Makers (the name given to the London 2012 volunteers), I am sure the many 45,000 volunteers selected from the pool of over 300,000 applicants will help deliver a first-class event for Paris 2024.”
