Harrow Council has approved an additional £6 million towards the borough’s road resurfacing programme.
The decision, made on Thursday night, July 25 by the cabinet, aims to address the ongoing issue of potholes that affect both drivers and residents in the borough.
The new funding will support measures to maintain Harrow’s roads and footways. A significant part of this initiative includes the launch of a dedicated pothole squad to handle urgent repairs more efficiently. The council is also introducing machines and exploring thermal road repair techniques to resurface roads more quickly and effectively.
Already in use is the ‘pothole pro,’ a machine designed to be environmentally friendly, cost-effective, and efficient, producing minimal waste and recycling materials.
Cllr David Ashton, Cabinet Member for finance and highways at Harrow Council said: “Residents always tell us about the state of some of our roads. This last year we’ve done a lot to repair roads in disrepair, but we know more needs to be done.
“That’s why we’re investing more to permanently fix potholes and defects. Using state of the arts machinery, and our dedicated pothole squad, will help to fix even more potholes and ensure long lasting repairs.”
“This welcomed investment puts our residents first. Giving our roads first class treatment will restore pride back in our borough and keep our roads safe. This is what our residents want, and we will deliver on this as part of our key priorities for the year”.
