Rose Amankwaah, a recently retired theatre matron from Kenton, has been honoured with a Long Service Recognition Award at the annual Black Healthcare Awards. Rose dedicated 49 years to Central Middlesex Hospital before her retirement.
The award was presented at a gala event in London’s West End. Rose was accompanied by her colleagues Ben Jackson and Sala Abdallah, who were also shortlisted for awards in the Allied Health Professionals and Clinical Excellence Awards for Consultants categories.
The Black Healthcare Awards celebrate the contributions of Black Caribbean and African professionals in care and health services.
Rose expressed her delight, saying, “It was a fantastic evening. They had to call my name three times before it sunk in that it was me they were calling to the stage. I am enjoying my retirement so much and it was lovely to come to an awards evening like this regardless of the outcome.”
In addition to her healthcare career, Rose was an international sprinter for Ghana. She is looking forward to watching the Olympic Games, stating, “I love sport so to watch it live for the first time is a real treat.”
