Harrow residents are invited to attend a free community bike event tomorrow (Friday, August 9), from 10am to 4pm, at Harrow Town Centre, outside NatWest Bank on the High Road.
The event aims to promote cycling and enhance road safety by providing free bike repairs and security marking.
Cycle Confident, a cycling support organisation, will offer free bike repairs and marking services to help prevent theft and ensure bikes are roadworthy. The event also introduces the “Try Before You Bike” scheme, allowing residents to test out a bike for three months at no cost before deciding to purchase it.
In addition to cycling services, the London Fire Brigade (LFB) will perform a live demonstration at 1pm, illustrating their response to road traffic accidents.
The Greenhill Safer Neighbourhood Team will also be present to discuss crime prevention strategies.
The event, organised by Harrow Council, provides an opportunity to engage with Harrow’s Transport Team, who will share information about the borough’s Long-Term Transport Strategy and sustainable transport initiatives.
This community event aims to promote cycling as a safe and sustainable mode of transport while offering valuable resources and insights to residents.
Cllr David Ashton, Cabinet Member for Finance and Highways, said: “This community bike event is one of many ways we are raising awareness of road safety and active travel in Harrow. Together with our partners, we’re looking at ways to reduce collisions and provide valuable resources to prevent future accidents.
“We want residents to enjoy cycling around the borough and if we’re encouraging active travel, we’ll do all we can to create a safer environment for everyone in Harrow. So
please do join us for this informative and engaging event.”
