Harrow saw hundreds of people come together to celebrate Indian Independence Day, an annual event that commemorates India’s independence from the United Kingdom on 15 August 1947.
The day’s events in Harrow included a gathering at Byron Hall next to Harrow Leisure Centre, where people marked the occasion with a visit from the Mayor of Harrow, Cllr Salim Chowdhury. One of the standout moments was a parade of bikers riding through the streets in Harrow Town Centre, each displaying miniature Indian flags on their bikes.

A local resident commented, “It’s nice to see something positive in Harrow. I look forward to this every year. It brings a good energy to the area, even if it’s a bit noisy!”
Another person said, “This day always brings the community together in a special way. It’s a reminder of our roots and a chance to celebrate our culture with pride. Seeing everyone out with their flags and the parade is always a highlight for me.”
The celebrations reflected the strong connection between Harrow’s Indian community and their heritage, bringing a lively atmosphere to the borough.

Footage of the celebrations will be uploaded on the Harrow Online Group on Facebook throughout the evening, so stay tuned.
