Carib & Co and Nando’s team up to offer free brunches for Harrow residents amid cost of living crisis

Harrow residents are being supported by a new initiative offering complimentary healthy brunches, thanks to a partnership between Nando’s and the nonprofit community organisation, Carib & Co Brunch.

The effort, which aims to help those struggling with the rising cost of living, targets a wide range of people including those on low incomes, the elderly, single parents, families with dependents, individuals with disabilities, the homeless, the unemployed, and students.

In addition to the nourishing meals, the initiative also provides a space for social activities such as games and discussion talks, helping to build social cohesion and strengthen community ties.

Residents from Harrow and surrounding areas are invited to Nando’s, located at 300-302 Station Road, Harrow, HA1 2DX, every other Saturday from 12pm to 2pm to participate in this community-focused event. The initiative is particularly focused on supporting the elderly, vulnerable, and homeless with complimentary brunches.

The partnership began in November 2023 and saw over 200 meals donated each week during its initial phase. From September to December 2024, Nando’s will continue its collaboration with Carib & Co Brunch, offering fortnightly brunches to those in need. The organisers hope to expand the initiative by involving more major food brands like McDonald’s, KFC, Pizza Hut, and others, with the goal of providing weekly brunches instead of fortnightly.

Jade Weir-Reid, the Founder of Carib & Co Brunch, stressed the need for greater recognition and support for nonprofit organisations, stating: “Charities and nonprofit organisations should be recognised and celebrated just like big brands and well-known celebrities. To achieve this, more funding and investment schemes are needed to support their future causes and projects like this one—supporting those in need with a complimentary meal during the cost of living. It is estimated that 3,477 people are currently homeless in Harrow on any given night in 2022—including 1,875 children. This is set to increase in 2024 with the impact of the cost of living crisis.”

Jade also expressed her gratitude to Nando’s, particularly Charlotte, the manager at the Station Road branch, for providing a dedicated private space to host the fortnightly brunch events, adding: “We are extremely grateful to Nando’s, in particular Charlotte who is the manager at Nando’s Station Road in Harrow for giving us a dedicated private space upstairs to hold our fortnightly warm hub and brunch event at such a cultural and diverse venue. This will help to bring awareness to our nonprofit organisation. We thank you for believing in us and our vision. Peace and Love to many more free fortnightly brunches like this for the future!”
