Hillingdon Council’s Queens Walk Resource Centre in Ruislip marked its 10th anniversary on Wednesday, 14 August. The centre, which supports adults with learning disabilities and complex needs, held a celebration attended by centre users, their families, and both past and present staff.
The event featured a variety of activities, including a Summer Frolics sing-a-long show by the Rah Rah Theatre, traditional games like snakes and ladders and hook-a-duck, and an exhibition showcasing artwork created by the centre’s users. There was also a display highlighting the history of Queens Walk.
Since opening in 2014, the centre has expanded its offerings to include a range of activities aimed at fostering creativity and self-expression. Facilities include a music room for music therapy, an art room for various crafts, and an interactive room for residents with limited mobility to engage in movement-controlled games. The centre also features a hydrotherapy pool with sensory lighting, a health and wellbeing room, an activities studio, a sensory garden, and an adapted teaching kitchen where users can learn life skills.
Cllr Jane Palmer, Hillingdon Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, commented on the milestone: “It was wonderful to see the celebrations for the centre’s milestone anniversary with residents who benefit from our fantastic facility, their families, and our dedicated staff who work so hard to make a difference to the lives of some of our most vulnerable residents.
“We are committed to creating thriving, healthy communities and the centre helps us do that by providing valuable personalised support to residents who need it most, helping them to live healthy and active lives, as well as providing some respite for their families.”
