Harrow’s former Kodak factory, now transformed into the residential community known as Eastman Village, celebrated World Photography Day on August 19th. The event highlighted the deep historical significance of the site, which has been redeveloped by Barratt London as part of a £1.75 billion regeneration scheme in Harrow.
Eastman Village, named after George Eastman, the founder of Kodak, pays tribute to the legacy of the photography industry. The development features blocks named after prominent historical figures in photography, reflecting the site’s rich heritage. The annual World Photography Day, which honors the art, craft, science, and history of photography, provided a fitting backdrop for this celebration at the former Kodak factory site.
Situated on the grounds of the iconic Kodak film factory, Eastman Village is an integral part of a larger regeneration project in Harrow. The comprehensive scheme promises to include two new schools, create 3,000 jobs, and provide new shops, leisure facilities, and commercial spaces.

The naming of Eastman Village and its blocks is a direct homage to the history of photography. The most recent block to be launched bears the name of Roger Fenton, a pioneering photographer from the 1800s renowned for his iconic work. Another block, Barton Apartments, honors Emma Barton, one of the few women photographers highly respected in the early 1900s, whose work was first exhibited at the Royal Photographic Society in 1901.
In addition to the naming, Barratt London has restored the Kodak factory’s iconic chimney, preserving a landmark that remains a significant part of Harrow’s skyline.
Commenting on the project, Joseph Antoniazzi, Director of Sales & Marketing for Barratt West London, said: “Eastman Village is a landmark project for the wider Harrow area. The regeneration of the site is providing a beautiful place to live that blends history with modern living. We have taken great care to celebrate the development’s historic significance, with nods to the former Kodak factory throughout the site.”
