The Malt Shovel, a beloved pub in Uxbridge, has reopened its doors following a comprehensive refurbishment that has revitalised both its interior and exterior.
This historic 19th-century Grade 2 listed building, which sits alongside the Grand Union Canal, has been transformed to blend its traditional charm with a fresh, contemporary feel.
The renovation has brought new life to the pub while paying homage to its picturesque surroundings and storied past. Notable updates include a refurbished beer garden and elegantly styled interiors, making the Malt Shovel an ideal spot for gatherings with friends and family.
In addition to its new look, the Malt Shovel has also launched a revamped menu featuring a variety of popular dishes. Guests can now enjoy offerings such as oven-baked Chicken Forestiere, seared fillets of Seabass served with King Prawns, and a selection of Signature Skewers straight from the chargrill.

For those who prefer traditional country pub fare, the menu includes sensational Steaks, classic Fish & Chips, and a hearty Home-Baked Pie of the Day. The pub also serves brunch from 9 am on both Saturdays and Sundays.
The Malt Shovel has long served as a central hub for the local community and remains a popular stop for travellers navigating the canal network. Once a coal storage site for passing canal boats, the pub now offers a relaxing retreat for holidaymakers and locals alike. The pub continues to welcome dogs, providing water and treats to ensure they are as comfortable as their owners during visits.
General Manager Rhys Vivian expressed his excitement about the pub’s transformation, stating, “We’re absolutely delighted to welcome both our regulars and first-time guests to experience the Malt Shovel’s new, refreshed look.
“Whether you’re seeking a picturesque setting to enjoy high-quality dining or a cosy spot by the fire to enjoy a drink, our pub has it all,” he added.
