An investigation by Met detectives has resulted in a sexual predator being jailed for the attempted rape and sexual assault of a woman in Stanmore.
Dragos Razvan Vacariu, 28, of Portland Crescent, Stanmore was sentenced to eight years with a possible extension of two years at Wood Green Crown Court on Friday, 19 July.
Detective Constable Roy Hussain, who led the investigation said: “Vacariu is a sexual predator who carried out a terrifying attack on a woman as she walked home from work.
“The victim in this case handled the entire investigation and court process courageously and I can only hope this outcome will help to serve some comfort and bring the closure she deserves as she tries to now move on with her life.”
“Tackling violence against women and girls is a key priority for the Met. We will continue to do all we can to remove predatory offenders from the streets of the London while supporting the complainants and helping them through every stage as we try our very best to secure them justice.”
A spokesperson for the Met said, “On Monday, 2 May 2022 a woman in her 30s flagged down a motorist on Morley Crescent, Stanmore, telling them she had been assaulted by a stranger who had threatened her with pliers.
“Police were called and immediately began an investigation. After taking an account from the victim, they followed the route she had taken and identified a man matching the suspect’s description nearby.
“On searching, he was found with two phones, one of which belonged to the victim. He was arrested and taken into custody.
“An intensive CCTV trawl showed the victim being pursued by the suspect as well as capturing the attack itself.
“Vacariu suggested he had only robbed her but the jury found him guilty of both sexual assault and attempted rape.”
