This week, students across the country have been anxiously receiving their GCSE results, marking the culmination of years of hard work and dedication. Bentley Wood High School in Stanmore is no exception, with Year 11 students celebrating their achievements after receiving their GCSE and BTEC results on Thursday.
The results have been particularly impressive, with 33% of all grades awarded falling within the top bracket of 9 to 7, and 80% of all grades being awarded between 9 and 4. These numbers reflect the high standards set by the school and the commitment of both students and staff.
The grading system, which was reformed a few years ago, now uses numbers instead of the previous letter grades. Under this system, a grade 9 is equivalent to a high A*, while a grade 4 is considered a standard pass, roughly equivalent to a C in the old system. The shift to numerical grades is intended to provide more differentiation among the top-performing students.

Naseema Akbar, headteacher of Bentley Wood, praised the efforts of everyone involved, stating, “These results are a testament to the hard work and close supportive network our students, their families/carers and our staff have maintained over the years.”
She added, “It is so good to see many students excited about enrolling into their 6th Form or college courses. We wish them all continued success.”
A special congratulations goes out to the 21 students who achieved an outstanding eight or more GCSE grades at 8 and 9.
The school community at Bentley Wood High School is undoubtedly proud of their Year 11 students and looks forward to seeing their continued success in the future.
