London North West Healthcare (LNWH) Charity has introduced a new initiative to support parents and their newborns during stressful and challenging times.
Thanks to the charity’s funding, music therapy sessions are now being offered in the neonatal unit at Northwick Park Hospital.
The sessions, led by musician Elkie Jeffery from the Music in Hospitals & Care charity, take place every two weeks. Jeffery provides a soothing environment by singing lullabies and playing calming music, helping to ease the anxiety of both parents and their babies.
Matron Ann Jones noted the positive impact of these sessions, noting that parents appreciate the unexpected visits.
“Elkie’s visits are often unexpected treats for parents, and their feedback is really positive. Staff also enjoy her music as they go about providing specialist care for very sick babies,” she said.
The funding for these sessions has been secured for at least another year.
LNWH Charity continues to fund projects like this that enhance the patient and staff experience, focusing on innovative approaches to healthcare.
