Police in Harrow discovered over 100 nitrous oxide canisters outside Newton Ecological Park in Rayners Lane during a routine patrol.
Harrow MPS, via their social media channels, reported that the canisters were discovered outside the park during a joint mobile patrol with officers from the Roxeth, Rayners Lane, and Harrow on the Hill Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNT).
Nitrous oxide, commonly known as “laughing gas,” is a substance used medically for pain relief, particularly in dental procedures.
However, its recreational misuse has raised significant concerns across the UK. Often inhaled for its euphoric effects, nitrous oxide can pose serious health risks when abused.
The growing trend of nitrous oxide abuse, especially among young people, is leading to increased incidents of discarded canisters in public spaces.
These canisters not only represent environmental hazards but also reflect the widespread nature of the issue.
Harrow MPS confirmed that the canisters have since been collected and destroyed, with assistance from Harrow Litter Pickers.
