Wembley Stadium has been given the go-ahead to host up to eight additional non-sporting events each year, following a decision by Brent Council’s Planning Committee. The approval, granted on 11 September, allows the stadium to hold up to 54 non-sporting events annually.
The decision comes as Wembley Stadium celebrates its 100th anniversary, cementing its position as a premier venue for global entertainment. This summer, the stadium hosted Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, along with performances by AC/DC, Green Day, and Bruce Springsteen, attracting fans from around the world. These events generated significant economic benefits for local businesses, including restaurants and hotels.
Councillor Shama Tatler, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Growth and Planning, expressed her gratitude to those who contributed feedback on the stadium’s planning application. She stated, “It’s crucial that the Stadium hears feedback from residents. We are proud that Wembley Stadium remains at the heart of our national story, with a storied history dating back over a century. This summer, Taylor Swift’s ERAS Tour injected an estimated £300million into London’s economy – a significant boost for local businesses and communities. Being able to hold additional events will help keep the iconic Wembley Stadium firmly on the global stage.”
Wembley’s ability to host more events means even more major acts will be performing just 15 minutes from Harrow, giving residents the chance to enjoy world-class entertainment on their doorstep. We are fortunate to be so close to a venue that plays such a vital role in both the national and local economies.
To address any potential impact from the increased number of events, Wembley Stadium has agreed to fund various improvements in the surrounding area. This ensures that the venue can continue to serve as a major entertainment hub while also supporting the local community.
