Harrow recently witnessed a celebration of Kerala’s culture as hospital staff from Northwick Park helped bring the Onam Festival to the streets of South Harrow.
The Malayalee community gathered for what is considered the largest Onam celebration in the UK, marking the cultural significance of the event.
A standout feature of the celebrations in Harrow was a homemade elephant, which became a focal point of the festivities.
Along with the elephant, the event showcased traditional elements such as elaborate floral decorations and cultural performances, reflecting the rich heritage of Kerala.
Onam, a significant annual festival for the people of Kerala, is celebrated by the overseas Indian community living in the UK. The festival commemorates the mythical King Mahabali and is marked by a feast known as Onam Sadhya, a multi-course vegetarian meal served on banana leaves.
Harrow Online recently featured more on this, highlighting how this event brings together people from diverse backgrounds to celebrate the cultural traditions of Kerala in Harrow.
