A new four-bed Paediatric High Dependency Unit (PHDU) has officially opened at Northwick Park Hospital, offering specialised care for local families. The unit is one of only a few in London providing this level of service, aimed at young people who require advanced medical support.
The PHDU will cater to children who need long-term non-invasive ventilation, those with tracheostomies (with or without ventilation), and those who live locally to the hospital but do not require full intensive care support.
The opening of this unit brings much-needed specialised care closer to home for families in the area.

Pippa Nightingale, CEO of London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH), highlighted the importance of the new facility, stating: “We value the importance of children being treated as close to home as possible and the team have worked hard to win provision of this service in North West London.”
LNWH provides hospital and community services to the people of Harrow, Brent, and Ealing, with a team of over 9,000 staff serving a diverse population of around one million people. The trust has been operational since 2014.
This new addition at Northwick Park Hospital marks a significant step in expanding paediatric care in the region, ensuring that local families can access specialised treatment without travelling far from home.
