The Man Down Project in Harrow has introduced “Man Down Walks,” a new initiative designed to support men’s mental health through a series of guided nature walks. In collaboration with Harrow Health Walks, part of the Ramblers Wellbeing Walks network, and Public Health Harrow, these walks aim to provide men aged 16 and over with an opportunity to engage in open discussions about mental health while connecting with nature.
“Man Down Walks” seeks to address the growing need for mental health support among men by creating a space where participants can share their experiences and challenge the social stigma often associated with discussing emotional well-being. The initiative encourages men to break away from the “Man Up” culture and instead focus on building mental resilience.
Three walks have been scheduled over the coming months:
World Mental Health Day Walk: Taking place on Sunday, 13th October at Harrow Recreation Ground, this walk will run from 10:00am to 11:30am. It aims to highlight the importance of mental health, with guided activities and discussions designed to help participants build resilience and improve their well-being.

International Men’s Day / Movember Walk: On Sunday, 17th November, a walk will be held at Harrow View Point from 10:00am to 11:30am. This event will focus on men’s health issues, including prostate cancer and mental health, with educational segments and opportunities for participants to share their experiences.
Men’s Winter Walk: Scheduled for Sunday, 8th December at Pinner Memorial Park, this walk will also run from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM. It is designed to help men manage Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and other mental health challenges during the colder months, with discussions centred on coping strategies and the benefits of staying active during winter.
The Man Down Project, founded in Harrow, was created in response to the harmful expectations placed on men and aims to support mental health for men of all ages.
Through partnerships with local organisations like Harrow Council and Harrow Health Walks, “Man Down Walks” offers men in the community a unique platform to come together, support each other, and take positive steps towards improving their mental well-being.
