On Sunday, 6th October, officers from the Headstone Safer Neighbourhood Team were conducting a ‘Walk, Talk & Do’ event when they were approached by a member of the public who had discovered what they believed to be a live firearm.
The discovery occurred while the individual was clearing out old property at their home.
A spokesperson for the Met Police said, “On Sunday 6th October, officers from Headstone Safer Neighbourhood Team were conducting a ‘Walk, Talk & Do’ event when they were approached by a member of the public who had found what was believed to be a live firearm whilst clearing out some old property at their home.
“Officers attended the location and seized a pistol, which was later confirmed by specially trained forensic officers to be a ‘gas powered’ Air weapon.
“It had been left at the house over 12 years ago by a friend who had been visiting the homeowner.”
