Greenhill’s Labour Councillors have helped secure funding for a new festive lights display in Harrow Town Centre, with the first wave of lights unveiled last Saturday. Hundreds of residents gathered to witness the event, which marks the start of a series of lights set to brighten the town for Diwali and Christmas.
The initiative came after Louise Baxter, manager of Harrow’s business improvement district representing over 230 businesses, approached the councillors for support in attracting more visitors to the town centre. Councillors Aneka Shah-Levy, Dan Anderson, and Ghazanfar Ali worked together to secure the funding through the National Community Infrastructure Levy (NCIL).
Councillors Aneka Shah-Levy, Dan Anderson, and Ghazanfar Ali stated: “It was an honour to attend the switching on of Harrow town centre’s new festive lights last weekend. We were thrilled to see hundreds of residents of all number of faiths and communities gathered on Saturday to enjoy the new set of lights, which will now sparkle all through Diwali and then Christmas, making these lights an important signifier of the bonds across faith and culture that make Harrow so vibrant and unique.
“It was an honour to source these new lights to make our town centre shine, and we look forward to welcoming the second wave of lights on November 30th – you won’t want to miss them!”
The next set of lights will be switched on 30th November, bringing further festive cheer to the area.
