The Whitefriars Basketball Academy has launched in Wealdstone, based at Whitefriars School on Whitefriars Drive. The academy offers sixth-form students the chance to combine academic studies with elite-level basketball training.
The new academy, led by Coach Gary Maitland as part of the Bridge the Gap programme, provides 12 hours of professional coaching each week. Students compete in U17 and U19 National Schools competitions while pursuing their academic goals.
Gary Maitland, NBA and Global Skills coach and Academy Director, said: “This is an incredible opportunity for young players in Harrow and the surrounding areas. For far too long, students had to leave the borough to pursue the sport they love.
“Now, we are here to accommodate their aspirations and provide access to a higher level basketball experience, right here at home.”
The programme aims to develop well-rounded individuals by fostering discipline, teamwork, and resilience, alongside focusing on education.
