Hospital in Harrow recognised for outstanding patient care at national awards

The Clementine Churchill Hospital in Harrow, located on Sudbury Hill and part of Circle Health Group, has been recognised for its quality of care at the Laing Buisson Awards held on Thursday, 21 November, in London. The hospital, along with others in the Circle Health Group, received the Laing Buisson award for best private hospitals nationally.

The hospital was praised for its support for staff and patient outcomes. The award recognised the contribution The Clementine Churchill Hospital makes to the overall success of Circle Health Group.

The Laing Buisson Awards, held annually, highlight excellence in private healthcare. This year, judges noted that The Clementine Churchill Hospital and Circle Health Group “showcased an excellent growth story” and “achieved market-leading outcomes that significantly improves patient access and affordability.” This is the second time in four years that The Clementine Churchill Hospital has received this recognition.

In 2023, Circle Health Group’s Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMS) for knee surgery were the highest in the independent sector and above the national average for hip surgery. PROMS are used to measure the clinical effectiveness of treatments and services. The hospital also recorded the lowest levels of infections and unplanned transfers of care on record.

The award also recognised the hospital’s workforce support. As one of Harrow’s largest employers, The Clementine Churchill Hospital launched the independent sector’s first university programme in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University, offering professional development courses sponsored by Circle Health Group.

Additionally, the hospital utilised the national apprenticeship levy to support staff. It offered over 30 courses ranging from nursing to administration and finance. Circle Health Group and The Clementine Churchill Hospital achieved between 95-100% levy utilisation in 2023, far above the national average of 40-50%.
