Roxeth Primary School in Harrow receives positive Ofsted rating

Roxeth Primary School, located on Brickfields, Byron Hill Road, Harrow, has maintained its “Good” rating following an Ofsted inspection conducted on 24 and 25 September 2024. Inspectors highlighted many strengths, with personal development rated as “Outstanding.”

The school’s quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, leadership and management, and early years provision all received a “Good” rating. The report notes that pupils are “happy, confident and resilient” and benefit from a wide range of enrichment activities and trips that provide valuable life experiences. Pupils also engage in leadership roles and demonstrate respect and courtesy.

According to the inspection, “Pupils study a broad and enriched education. They enjoy their learning and make good progress.” Conduct around the school was described as “calm and respectful,” with children in the early years showing kindness and developing strong social skills.

Inspectors commended the school’s efforts to promote diversity and respect, as well as its close ties with local secondary schools, which enable pupils to participate in a variety of clubs and activities. The report states: “The school works well with families. Parents and carers speak favourably of the school.”

In terms of curriculum, the report notes that teachers have secure subject knowledge and use trips and enriching activities to make learning memorable. For example, pupils recalled their visit to St Albans to see Roman mosaics when learning about Roman Britain.

The school’s early years provision is well resourced and fosters a smooth transition into Reception. However, Ofsted suggested further development of the curriculum to ensure children make stronger progress.

Reading was highlighted as a strength, with a structured phonics programme helping pupils to become fluent readers. “Teaching builds a culture of reading using role play, dedicated reading time and texts chosen that are both ambitious and enjoyed by the pupils,” the report states.

The school’s approach to personal development was praised as excellent. Pupils have opportunities to visit different places of worship, attend carefully planned trips, and participate in activities with local secondary schools. They take on roles such as ‘rights rangers,’ eco-warriors, and librarians, and learn how to stay safe and healthy.

The report also notes that staff feel valued, with their well-being prioritised by leaders. Governors and leaders were described as knowledgeable and committed to further improvement.

Safeguarding arrangements were deemed effective.

Ofsted concluded by recommending that the school reviews how its curriculum is taught in some subjects to ensure all pupils achieve well and that activities in the early years consistently draw out intended learning outcomes. Despite these areas for development, the overall report reflects positively on the school’s efforts to provide a supportive and enriching environment for its pupils.
