The Headteacher of Grange Primary School in South Harrow has completed a 500-mile running challenge to raise funds for enrichment activities at the school. His goal was to raise £10,000, and he has raised approximately £7,000 so far.
On Friday, 29th November, Head of the school Mr Kerbel, finished his final 21km run on the school’s Daily Mile track. Pupils from all year groups joined him for parts of the run.

The day began with an event hosted by Radio Grange, a collaboration between Ms Begum, Assistant Headteacher, and the student council. They interviewed Mr Kerbel before the run.
To celebrate the end of the challenge, the entire school wore sportswear, with Mrs Joshi coordinating year groups to support Mr Kerbel. Between 10:30am and just after 1 pm, pupils, staff, parents, and governors ran alongside him on the track.
At the finish line, Mathilde Kerr from the Harrow Healthy Schools Initiative presented Mr Kerbel with a medal and certificate. She had helped install the school’s Daily Mile track. It was also announced that Mr Kerbel had secured a place in the London Marathon next year.
Kieran Moriarty, Social Media Lead for the London Marathon, interviewed Mr Kerbel and said: “Definitely think the next generation of runners will come from South Harrow based on what I saw today on the track.”

Miss Shah, the school’s PE lead, spoke about the impact of the challenge: “By choosing a running challenge, Daniel has also inspired children to be more active and make the most of our Daily Mile track. He often had children, staff, parents, and even governors running part of the way with him, so it involved and inspired the whole school community!”
A spokesperson for the school added, “On behalf of the entire Grange Community we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Kerbel for completing his incredible 500-mile journey. His commitment to raising funds for enrichment activities exemplifies the values of perseverance, generosity, and dedication.
“Thank you, Mr.Kerbel, for going the extra mile (or 500!) for our school. Your efforts will make a lasting difference in the lives of our pupils and inspire generations to come”
The funds raised will go towards enrichment activities for the pupils. The running challenge has also encouraged health and fitness across the school community.
