Camrose Primary in Edgware praised for outstanding personal development and behaviour in latest Ofsted report

Camrose Primary School with Nursery in Edgware, has received a glowing review following its most recent Ofsted inspection conducted on 2 and 3 July 2024. The school maintained its overall rating of ‘Good,’ with inspectors commending several areas of the school’s work as ‘Outstanding.’

Highlights from the report include ‘Outstanding’ ratings for behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and early years provision. Ofsted noted that “behaviour in lessons and around the school is exemplary,” attributing this to the pupils’ understanding of the school’s ‘good to be green’ system, which fosters positive and respectful relationships between staff and students.

The report noted the school’s ambitious and well-designed curriculum, which ensures pupils are well-prepared for the next stage of their education. Inspectors noted: “Pupils learn an ambitious curriculum. In all subjects, leaders have clearly identified what pupils should learn.”

Camrose Primary’s efforts to support pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) were also praised. Ofsted remarked: “Staff are well trained to make meaningful adaptations to tasks and activities. As a result, these pupils access the same ambitious curriculum as their peers and achieve well from their different starting points.”

The report also went on to highlight the school’s emphasis on reading, with well-trained staff delivering the phonics programme effectively and systems in place to support pupils new to English. “Leaders encourage a love of reading through the school,” inspectors noted, adding that opportunities for parents to read with their children have also been introduced.

Pupils’ personal development was described as “very well considered,” with a curriculum that includes learning about diversity, online safety, and mental health. Inspectors mentioned: “The curriculum builds logically from early years. For example, the concept of democracy is introduced through children voting for the story they want to hear at the end of the day.”

They appreciate the opportunities they have to develop professionally, and the efforts leaders make to manage workload and well-being.”

Governors were commended for their role in supporting and challenging school leaders, and the arrangements for safeguarding were confirmed as effective.

Parents expressed high levels of satisfaction with the school, reflecting the strong community ethos Camrose Primary has built.
