Halifax has announced that its Kingsbury branch, located at 469 Kingsbury Road, will be closing on 2 June 2025.
The decision follows a decline in customers using in-person banking, with many opting for online and mobile banking services instead.
The closure will leave Santander as the only remaining bank on Kingsbury Road, following the recent closures of Barclays, HSBC, NatWest, Lloyds, and Nationwide.
Queensbury Ward Councillor Jayanti of Brent Council commented on the closure, saying “Queensbury Update! – You may already be aware we have been informed that the Halifax Kingsbury branch will be closing down on 2 June 2025. The bank will be writing to customers shortly. The reason for closure is that many customers now choose to bank through their mobile app or online, and as a result visits to the branch have fallen.
“The ‘disappearance of face-to-face banking’ in Kingsbury Road risks cutting lots of elderly people out of an essential service, which will make it ‘difficult if not impossible for them to manage their money and maintain their independence’. Banks that have recently vanished in Kingsbury Road are Barclays, HSBC, NatWest, Lloyds, Nationwide and now Halifax that would leave only Santander.
“We do share resident concerns who have contacted us that they are being left without a bank even within driving distance now, and that High Street banks are treating their customers appallingly, despite making billions of pounds in profit. Banks claim to support inclusion, yet they ignore those who need in-person services the most. They have a duty to serve their communities, not just their shareholders.”
A Halifax spokesperson told Harrow Online: “As many customers now choose to bank through their app or online, visits to our Kingsbury branch have fallen over recent years. When the branch closes in June, customers can continue to manage their money on our app, online, by calling us, in person at the Edgware Road branch, or the local Post Office on Kingsbury Road.”
