A woman has died following a road traffic collision involving a car, a bus, and pedestrians in Harrow last night.
The incident happened at around 9:15pm on Bessborough Road, with emergency services rushing to the scene. Lower Road in West Harrow was blocked in both directions near the junction with West Street while emergency crews responded.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 9:17pm on 24 February to reports of a road traffic collision near Whitmore Road.
“We sent multiple resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, a paramedic in fast response car, an incident response officer, members of our hazardous area response team (HART) as well as command support vehicles. We also dispatched a trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance.”
“We treated four patients at the scene before taking two patients to a major trauma centre and discharging one patient at the scene. Very sadly, despite best efforts of our crews, one person was pronounced dead at the scene.”
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said, “Crews were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Lower Road in Harrow.
“A bus, two cars and two pedestrians were in collision. Sadly, a woman was declared dead at the scene. Two further people were treated on scene by London Ambulance Service.
“Control Officers took the call at 2140 and mobilised two fire engines from Northolt and Harrow fire stations to the scene. The incident was over for firefighters at 2238.”
Bus routes 395, H9, H10, and SL9 were affected and placed on diversion following the incident. Images from the scene show a 395 bus involved in the collision.
The road reopened shortly after 5am this morning, Tuesday, February 25.
A spokesperson for the Met Police said: “Detectives are appealing for witnesses and any road users with footage following a fatal collision in Harrow.
“Police were called at 21:19hrs on Monday 24 February to reports of a collision on Bessborough Road, Harrow involving a car, a bus and pedestrians.
“Officers, London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance all attended. Despite the best efforts of emergency services one of the pedestrians, a woman aged in her 40s, sadly died at the scene.
“The two other pedestrians were taken to hospital for treatment – their conditions are not life-threatening.
“The driver of the car stopped at the scene and he was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He remains in custody.
“Road closures were put in place while the scene was dealt with but have since been lifted.
“Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with footage of this incident, including drivers with dashcam footage, to contact police on 101 or ‘X’ @MetCC quoting CAD 7193/24FEB25.
