Whitmore High School will host its 8th Annual University Fair on Friday, 28 February, from 3:30pm to 5:30pm.
The event is supported by Gareth Thomas MP and will give students a chance to explore university options and future career paths.
Last month, Thomas held his 6th Careers Fair at Rooks Heath School, which connected students with local businesses and employers. The University Fair will continue this work by bringing 30 of the UK’s leading universities, including Oxford and Cambridge, to Harrow students.
Harrow schools have an estimated 63% of students going on to higher education. Until eight years ago, there was no opportunity in the borough for students to meet representatives from top UK universities before submitting UCAS applications. Private schools across the country have long organised their own fairs, giving their students an advantage in the UCAS process.

While some local schools and colleges now hold their own fairs, Gareth Thomas and Whitmore aim to ensure that Harrow students have access to similar opportunities.
The event will feature university representatives speaking with students and a series of five key talks on applying to Oxbridge, studying medicine and dentistry, student finance, STEM careers, and degrees via apprenticeships.
Gareth Thomas, MP for Harrow West, said, “Studying at one of Britain’s leading Universities like Oxford or Cambridge can be a goal for all of the students in Harrow, and not just the wealthy few. Academic and professional success should not be restricted to those who come from fee-paying schools. It should be available to all in Harrow. Thanks to Head teacher James Rebbitt and the excellent staff at Whitmore High School for continuing to make this possible.”
