The Met Police has confirmed that its Counter Terrorism Command is now leading the investigation into the fire at an electrical substation in Hayes. Due to its location and the impact on critical national infrastructure, specialist officers are working to determine the cause while aiming to minimise disruption.
The fire, which started late last night, caused a major power outage affecting homes, businesses, and Heathrow Airport. The airport remains closed, with all flights suspended until at least midnight. Passengers have been advised not to travel and to check with their airlines for further updates.
Firefighters have brought the blaze under control, but crews remain at the scene. A 200-metre cordon is in place, and around 150 people have been evacuated. Smoke remains in the area, and residents have been urged to keep windows and doors closed.
