Work has started on the installation of 100 new electric vehicle (EV) charging points across Harrow.
The project is a collaboration between Harrow Council and Trojan Energy, with funding support from the government’s On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS). The new chargers are being placed on residential streets and are aimed at people without access to off-street parking.
Cllr Ashton, Cabinet Member for Finance and Highways, said: “This will be welcoming news for residents. Not everyone has a driveway, so this is significant infrastructure that will help those charge their car near their home. It’s great for the environment, great for sustainable travel and doesn’t clutter the streets.
“This is one of many ways we are putting residents first, by making it easier for those thinking about switching to electric or hybrid.”
The charge points are designed to sit flat and remain hidden when not in use, reducing pavement clutter. They offer charging speeds of up to 22kW and do not require an app or card. Users will need a personal adapter to plug in.
Ian Mackenzie, CEO of Trojan Energy, said: “We’re pleased to be partnering with the London Borough Harrow to deliver our clutter-free on-street EV charging to more residents. At Trojan Energy, our mission is to ensure everyone can benefit from the transition to electric vehicles, particularly those without access to off-street parking.
“This collaboration marks another meaningful step towards making reliable, accessible charging a standard feature of streets across the UK.”
The rollout is expected to be completed later this year.
