Northwick Park Hospital is appealing to the public to return walking aids such as sticks and frames that are no longer being used.
The hospital trust is currently spending more than £40,000 a year replacing equipment that often ends up gathering dust in people’s homes and have been issued by hospitals.
Nationally, the cost of replacing unreturned walking aids is a whopping £14 million.
The hospital says that raising awareness about the issue could help save the NHS a significant amount of money. This would also support efforts to reduce carbon emissions and improve the organisation’s green footprint by cutting down on the production of new equipment.
Anyone with unused walking sticks or frames is encouraged to return them to the physiotherapy department at their local hospital.
