Stanmore Post Office burgled as masked men smash into store

The Post Office in Stanmore was broken into last night during a burglary that saw masked men force their way into the store to steal cigarettes.

According to CCTV footage, the suspects were wearing balaclavas and caused significant damage to the shutters and front of the store to gain entry.

A post on the Stanmore Society page said: “Unfortunately the Post Office in Stanmore was broken into last night to steal cigarettes. Police are investigating reports of masked men breaking into three separate shops in the Bushey/Stanmore area who fled the scene on a moped with no number plate.”

The incident comes just days after similar thefts were reported at the Morrisons Local in Bushey and the main Morrisons in Watford, where cigarettes were also stolen.

A spokesperson for Met Police said, “At approximately 04.15am on Thursday, 1st April 2025 police were called to a branch of the Post Office on Church Road in Stanmore, following a report of two males attempting to force entry to the premises.

“The attending officers found that the suspects had managed to gain entry inside the location and stolen a large quantity of cigarettes before making off on a red coloured motorbike in the direction of CLAMP HILL.

“There have been no arrests but an investigation has been started. Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or ‘X’ @MetCC and quote Crime ref no. 01/7437751/25. Information can also be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
