A small pastry shop in Harrow is quietly making a big impact – one free coffee at a time.
Diamond Cakes, located on The Bridge in Wealdstone, has launched a thoughtful initiative to support people in the community who may be struggling. Every morning the bakery puts out free pastries between 6 and 8am, and offers “coffee in anticipation,” allowing generous customers to pay in advance for someone else’s drink.
“We began offering free items to show kindness and support to our community,” said Anna, Manager for Diamond Cakes. “Helping each other is such a beautiful thing and we wanted to raise awareness as well as encourage other businesses to promote kindness to the community.”

There isn’t a formal system, items are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, and the number of pre-paid coffees is written on a board outside the shop. Anyone who needs one is welcome to claim it.
“We had very positive feedback from the community so far and this brings us so much joy,” she added.
Recently, Diamond Cakes was the victim of a break-in, but the incident only strengthened their belief in the goodness of local people.
“The break-in was a very serious and damaging incident that did not benefit either of the parties as we never keep cash or valuables in the bakery. We felt a lot of support from our community after the incident and we appreciate everyone that took out of their time to show kindness.”

As for the message they’d like to share with Harrow residents: “Always think of others, not only by offering physical items but also kind words.”
Diamond Cakes continues to serve the community with warmth and generosity, and hopes its example will inspire others to do the same.
