Harrow Council has opened a public consultation on how the borough’s parks and open spaces should be managed over the next five years.
The eight-week consultation invites residents to give their views on a new draft strategy that sets out key priorities for investment and improvements across Harrow.
A total of £6 million is planned to be invested over the next three years to improve and modernise the borough’s parks. The council has also set an ambitious target of achieving nine Green Flag Park accreditations, the highest number in Harrow’s history.
The strategy focuses on five main priorities:
- Protecting parks and encouraging wildlife
- Ensuring everyone can access good-quality parks
- Managing parks in ways that support nature and the environment
- Promoting health and well-being
- Involving local people, groups and businesses in park design and care
Councillor Janet Mote, Portfolio Holder for Community & Culture, said:
“Over 20 percent of land in our borough is either a park or an open space, they are one of Harrow’s greatest assets – and we know how much they matter to our residents.
“This strategy sets out how we plan to improve and protect these spaces for everyone to enjoy. Your feedback is vital to help us get it right.”
The council says the investment will fund a range of improvements, including upgraded footpaths, entrances, signage, refreshed playgrounds, modernised buildings, and safer, more inclusive spaces.
As part of the strategy, large litter bins have already been introduced in 12 parks to help reduce waste and improve the environment.
Residents are encouraged to read the draft strategy and complete a short survey via the Council’s consultation platform, MyHarrow Talk.
All feedback will be reviewed by council officers and a steering group before the final strategy is confirmed.
The consultation is open until 11.59pm on Monday 14 July 2025.
The strategy covers parks, green spaces, nature reserves, sports fields, and playgrounds. It does not include allotments or cemeteries, which are managed separately.
