Multiple homes in Harrow Weald have been affected by an unplanned power cut this afternoon.
The outage, which was first reported at 3:13pm, is currently impacting properties within the HA3 5 and HA3 6 postcodes. According to the latest update, engineers are now on site and working to identify and fix the issue.
The cause has been confirmed as a fault on a piece of electrical equipment that controls the power supply to affected homes.
A statement from the electricity provider reads: “A fault has occurred on a piece of our electrical equipment which controls the power to your home.”
At 3:36pm, engineers were dispatched to the area, and by 3:51pm, they had arrived and begun investigations. The provider confirmed: “Engineers are now on site, carrying out investigations into the fault. Once they have completed their assessment, they will carry out repairs.”
The outage map shows a large area of Harrow Weald currently affected, including parts of Long Elmes, Headstone Lane, and surrounding residential streets. However, not all properties within the zone are without power.
The company added: “We became aware of a power cut at 15:13. We’re sorry for any disruption this may have caused you. We didn’t know in advance there would be a power cut but now that we know, our teams will do everything they can to get your power back quickly.”
Another update sent at around 4pm said: “Our staff have now arrived on site in the Courtenay Avenue area. Due to there being multiple power cuts over a short space of time, our engineers are going to start their tests at the nearby substation. Our current time frame is between 18:30 and 19:30; this is an estimate based on them checking the state of our network, and attempting to restore your power. It’s possible that the underground cabling fault we believe has been causing these power cuts has reach a point where they can’t safely replace our substation equipment. If this happens we’ll need to arrange further teams and equipment, so I’ll let you know more news as soon as our staff update us.”
Power Cut Update – 6:53pm: “Thanks for your patience over today. Our engineers have been in contact with us to let us know that our specialist teams are still on the way. To give them time to arrive and safely locate and repair the fault, the estimated time frame to restore your power is now between 21:30 and 22:30. We’re sorry this is taking longer than expected, and we’ll continue to keep you up to date, but if any change to this time comes in from our staff I’ll let you know as soon as we hear.”
Update: Engineers are still working to restore power after it went off again earlier. They’ve identified a larger underlying fault affecting substation equipment. Power is now expected to be restored between 23:00 and 00:00.
Earlier, engineers had repaired an underground fault and confirmed power was back on in the Courtenay Avenue area.
Residents are encouraged to check live updates via the provider’s “Track my power cut” service as work continues.
More updates to follow as we receive them.
