Children’s home in Harrow celebrates ‘Good’ Ofsted rating with summer party

A Harrow-based children’s home has celebrated receiving a ‘Good’ rating from Ofsted with a summer party attended by families, staff and local councillors.

The Firs, which is run by Harrow Council, supports children with special needs and provides a safe and nurturing environment. The home features sensory rooms, personalised bedrooms, and a specially designed garden, described by families as a place where children feel “safe, happy and supported”.

The celebration, held on 30 May, was attended by the Mayor of Harrow, Cllr Anjana Patel, and Cllr Hitesh Karia, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services. They met with staff, children, and parents to mark the recent Ofsted inspection, which highlighted the care and compassion shown by staff.

Cllr Hitesh Karia said: “It’s fantastic to visit The Firs for their summer event this year. This children’s home provides excellent care for those with learning disabilities. I spoke to staff and parents, and it’s been described as a ‘second home’ for their children. It’s also been inspiring hearing from those who have gone on to thrive as adults.

“I’m proud that we’ve received a ‘good’ Ofsted rating, recognising our staff’s dedication, hard work and professionalism to deliver a quality service and nurturing environment for our children in care. We’ll keep building on this to put residents first, give children the best start, and support families in need of help.”

The Ofsted report praised the home for its skilled and compassionate staff, noting the safe and caring support provided to children.
