A man who sexually assaulted three women on trains in London, including one travelling from Bushey, has been jailed following an investigation by British Transport Police.
Ahmad Ahmedzai, 30, of Great Road, Hemel Hempstead, was sentenced to 27 weeks in prison at Inner London Crown Court on Friday 30 May after pleading guilty to three counts of sexual assault.
The court heard how Ahmedzai targeted lone women on busy trains across three separate incidents last year.
On 10 September, he sexually assaulted a 28-year-old woman multiple times while on a packed service travelling from Bushey to London Euston. The victim was unable to move away due to the crowded carriage.
On 2 November, Ahmedzai assaulted another 28-year-old woman on a Jubilee Line train from Bermondsey. He struck again on 25 November, when he sexually assaulted a 22-year-old woman on a busy train from Watford Junction to London Euston.
All three victims reported the assaults to British Transport Police and provided descriptions. Officers used CCTV footage and facial recognition to identify Ahmedzai.
He was also given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for seven years and will remain on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years. He must also pay costs of £687.
Under the SHPO, Ahmedzai can only use the TfL network if he travels using an Oyster card or contactless payment method linked to an account in his name. When travelling outside of TfL, he must pre-book tickets and notify police before travelling.
Breaching the order is a criminal offence and could lead to further time in custody.
Detective Constable Jack Leach, who investigated the case, said: “Ahmedzai is a dangerous predator who targeted women on busy services in order to hide his sick antics, but due to the brave actions of those he targeted, by reporting the crimes to us we were able to catch him.
“There is zero-tolerance for sexual offences on the rail network and we will do everything in our power to bring offenders to justice.
“If you are the victim of a crime on the rail network, you can report by texting 61016 discreetly or calling 0800 405040. Always call 999 in an emergency.”
