London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust – which runs Northwick Park, Ealing, and Central Middlesex Hospitals – has paid out more than £850,000 in staff injury claims over the past five years.
Figures from NHS Resolution, obtained through a Freedom of Information request, show the Trust settled 25 staff injury claims between 2019 and 2024, with a total of £851,463 paid in damages. During that same period, there were 48 claims and incidents involving staff injuries reported to the NHS legal body.
The data forms part of a wider investigation by Legal Expert, revealing that NHS Trusts across London have collectively paid out over £21 million in compensation for staff injury claims in the last five years. Nationally, more than £103 million has been paid out by NHS Trusts since 2019 for similar claims.
The most common causes of staff injuries include slips and trips, lifting incidents, assaults, and accidents linked to insufficient training. Reported injuries ranged from orthopaedic damage to psychiatric harm, head injuries, and trauma to internal organs.

A spokesperson for London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust said, “The trust is one of the area’s biggest employers and does everything it can to ensure the appropriate health and safety measures are in place across multiple sites. We have a workforce of more than 9,000 people and, when accidents do occur, have a clear accountable system ensuring the individual is supported as well minimising the risk of the same accident happening again.”
Legal Expert, which obtained the data, said the findings highlight the need to protect frontline NHS workers and ensure appropriate support is in place when injuries occur.
