A moped rider was arrested in Hatch End after being stopped by police who spotted him using a mobile phone while driving.
Officers from Hatch End and Harrow Weald Safer Neighbourhood Teams stopped the vehicle and carried out checks, which revealed the man had no insurance and was wanted for immigration offences dating back to February 2023.
A spokesperson for Hatch End Police said on social media: “2029NW along with 2087NW from MPS Harrow Weald stopped a moped due to them using a mobile phone whilst driving. Intel checks showed he had no insurance and was wanted for immigration offences since February 2023. Male arrested and moped seized.”

Photos shared by police showed the man at a custody desk and the moped being loaded onto a recovery vehicle.
The incident has drawn a range of comments online. One person wrote: “Good. They drive like nutcases and are a menace.” Another added: “Maybe they should do more spot checks.”
Possible outcomes for the rider could include prosecution for driving without insurance, penalties for using a mobile phone while driving, and potential immigration enforcement action.
