A Harrow police sergeant has been recognised for her work tackling violence against women and girls in the borough.
Police Sergeant Rebecca Bridges, who is the Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Lead in Harrow, has played a crucial role in advancing essential initiatives aimed at addressing violence against women and girls.
Over the past 12 months, Sergeant Bridges has organised significant VAWG action days and secured funding of £4,000. The funding has been used for mounted patrols, canine units, additional VAWG patrols, Operation Vigilant patrols, safety equipment for the public, night-time economy reassurance and educational patrols. Sergeant Bridges has consistently worked to improve Harrow and the wider North West Basic Command Unit’s response to VAWG.

As the lead for the Spiking Intensification Week, she facilitated 62 activities throughout the borough. Her contributions have not only enhanced Harrow’s effectiveness in combating this crime but have led to improvements in internal processes. To sustain this level of service, she works with key partners and charities to continue this work.
During Sexual Violence and Abuse Awareness Week, PS Bridges carried out various activities, which resulted in Harrow delivering 17% of all activities across the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS). The initiatives included: Walk, Talk and Do, VAWG Engagement Stall, Vigilant/Hotspot Patrols, Operation Nightingale Patrols, and five arrests related to VAWG.
Sergeant Bridges’ work has been formally recognised with a BCU Commanders commendation.
